Industry Engagement Day
Students from Grades 10/12 recently took part in an Industry Engagement Day, visiting both Sustainable Timbers Tasmania and Hotel Verge Launceston to explore career opportunities beyond the classroom.
The day provided valuable insights into two very different industries. At Sustainable Timbers Tasmania, students learned about the importance of sustainable forestry practices, pathways into environmental management, and the wide range of jobs available in Tasmania’s timber industry — from conservation and science to operations and logistics.
Later, students visited Hotel Verge Launceston, where they were given a behind-the-scenes look at hospitality and tourism careers. From event management and guest services to business operations, students discovered the diverse opportunities within one of the state’s fastest-growing sectors.
Teachers said the experience encouraged students to think more broadly about their own career pathways and the transferable skills needed in the world of work.
The school community extends its gratitude to the Smith family, whose generosity made the day possible. Events like this give students a practical glimpse into life after school, and this year’s engagement day was both informative and inspiring.
