Health and Physical Education
This term, our Grade 7 students have been diving into an exciting and informative unit in Physical Education focused on Community Sport and Health, with a focus on Nutrition.
Throughout the unit, students are exploring the vital role that sport and physical activity play in building strong and healthy communities. They examine how local sporting clubs and organisations contribute to physical, social, and mental wellbeing, and how participation in community sport can foster teamwork, resilience, and a sense of belonging. So far they have participated in basketball and soccer with lots of fun still to come!
A key component of the unit is understanding healthy eating habits and the importance of nutrition in supporting an active lifestyle. Students are learning about the Australian Dietary Guidelines, the five food groups, and how to make informed food choices that fuel their bodies for both everyday activities and sporting performance.
Through engaging lessons, group discussions, and hands-on activities, students are developing their knowledge of balanced diets, hydration, and the impact of food on energy levels and their overall health. They also have the opportunity to reflect on their own eating habits and set personal goals for healthier living.
This unit is not only equipping students with valuable lifelong knowledge but also encouraging them to think critically about their health and the role they play in their communities.
