Welcome back to all families and staff to Queechy for 2023. I would like to particularly welcome our new students and their families who have joined us across all grades since the start of this year. I have been very pleased with how our new students have settled in and the positive way they have been included at Queechy by students and staff. It can be challenging transitioning from one school to another, and in many instances this year from one state or country to another. Our staff team quickly wrap the necessary supports around our new students to ensure a positive start to their time with us.
We have also welcomed 13 new staff to Queechy this year with new teachers, admin staff, support staff and Teacher Assistants. Some of our new arrivals have worked here on contract or as relief before but most are very new to Queechy and our community. I know our new staff have settled in very well and I am already receiving very positive feedback about our new additions.
Attendance:
Across the country, school communities are concerned about the drop in attendance rates since the onset of COVID. As a school we have also experienced a concerning decrease over the last three years. Katrina Davenport, our Grade Leaders and support team are working closely together to support families who are experiencing difficulties in getting their children to school. Please reach out to us if you have any concerns about your child’s attendance or engagement at school.
Our Student Leadership Board received their blazers and badges this morning during our Induction Assembly. It was a pleasure to work with them already this year and I know we can be exceptionally proud of all the young leaders we have representing our school in 2023.
I look forward to continuing and strengthening the partnerships we form with families during the course of this year. Your support of our school and your children will give them the best lift possible as they grow and learn with us here at Queechy.
Please make note of who the most appropriate person is for you to contact if you need to share information with the school about your child, or if you have any concerns about their wellbeing whilst here.

Every school day matters
Welcome back for another school year – we’re excited for what’s ahead! Start the year right by making every school day count.
Check out this new video. There are lots of things you can do to set your child up for success:
Make sure your child goes to school, every day
Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and
grow, and connect with their mates and teachers. It’s where bright futures start and where they’ll benefit the most.
Get them excited for school
If you show a positive attitude and excitement towards school, your child will pick up on that.
The most common thing we hear from students, of all ages, is that school is where they can:
» spend time with their friends and teachers
» create new and fun experiences
» find their interests
» learn new things
» open up their options – for whatever future they want (whether that’s their dream job or to travel around the world).
Share these positives with your child.
Talk to your child about school
Open up a conversation with your child about what’s happening
at school. It will help you to better support their interests and
confidence in learning. If you show an interest in school, they’ll know
that getting an education is important and valued.
Celebrate the milestones
Big and small! Celebrate milestones such as making it through the first
day or week of school. And remember: all milestones look different. If
it’s a big achievement for your child, it’s important to recognise it.
Set up a time to talk to your child’s teacher or principal
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available.
Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in
whatever way we can.
Know when to seek help
There is no weakness in admitting you need help. If your child has
completely disengaged with school, and not attending at all, there is
support to help you. In the first instance, talk to us at school.

website.

Hi, I’m Hannah and I’m the school chaplain. I’m here for social, emotional, and spiritual support. Starting a new school year can be daunting! If you need a bit of help, or just someone to talk to, I’m here for you. I’m at school every Monday. You can find me in my office upstairs in H block, or talk to a teacher to get in contact with me. I’m looking forward to meeting you and having another great year at Queechy!
Welcome back to a new school year. We would love to extend an invite to all new and current families to attend or be a member of the QHS association. The school association is a great way to stay informed and to have an input into what is happening at your teenagers high school.
We would love to see lots of smiling faces at our first meeting for 2023 on Tuesday 21st February at 6:30pm in the 11/12 learning space.
