Students have spent the first part of term 3 investigating energy transmission by various and how we humans have been able to utilize these to our advantage. They have looked at sound generation, the electromagnetic spectrum and how this is enabled long-distance communication and the digital revolution. In addition, students have investigated visible light and how it is refracted reflected. In the latter part of the term students are investigating electricity, its generation and use. They are working with electronics and constructing simple circuits.
Grade 10 students are gearing up for their exams with a focus on quadratic equations and other key concepts. Across the school, from Years 7 to 10, we’ve been implementing a "Vertical Classroom" setup to enhance learning.
This approach features multiple whiteboards around the room, allowing students to work standing up and collaborate in small groups. It encourages real-time problem-solving, immediate feedback, and active engagement, helping students understand complex topics more effectively.
We’re excited to see the benefits of this method school-wide as all our students continue to develop their Maths skills. Best of luck to our Grade 10's in their upcoming exams!
Travelling Chef B held their final food truck last week. The food truck events give students an opportunity to showcase their learning to staff and peers by cooking for them.
They design, plan and refine their recipe over the weeks leading up to the event in order to present numerous plates of their dish. Some choose to work on their own, others in small groups.
There was crepes galore, meringue (AKA Eton Mess), English Breakfast Burgers, Fish + Chips and more. Either way the dishes are sensational and a credit to the hard work they put in. All students should be proud of their efforts.
In Grade 9 Geography this term, students have been looking at how the world is interconnected through all the “T” words – travel, tourism, technology, transport and trade. Students have also analysed the tension that can result from those interconnections.
We have covered off on topics such as travel tips, the impact of COVID on tourism in Bali, the Bullet Train in Japan, ethical issues such as conflict diamonds in Sierra Leone and sweat shops in Asia, as well as Australia and China’s trade relationship. Students have developed a bit more of an understanding of who our neighbours in South-East Asia and the South-West Pacific are.
Students will conclude the unit by choosing a topic that is of interest to them, conducting research and then presenting back to the class.

I continue to be impressed with the high levels of teaching and learning that are evident across our school every day. Our high levels of respect, connection, courage, responsibility and growth were evident to me on Wednesday when Queechy High School hosted the senior and reserve football finals. Our students represented our school with pride, and they were truly outstanding ambassadors for all the parents and visiting schools to see. I had several staff from visiting schools compliment me on the behaviour and attitude of our students.
Uniform continues to be worn with pride and this is something that contributes to the calm and settled learning environments we maintain here at Queechy High School.
Work Placements are an invaluable activity that many of our Grade 9 and 10 students undertake throughout the course of the year. These provide students with the opportunity to participate in authentic workplace situations where they can see exactly what it would be like if they were to pursue a particular occupation as their career pathway. Take the time to talk to your child about where they see themselves heading in a vocational sense and get them to contact either Mr Crawford about possible work placements in a field of interest to them
Grade 10 exams were held this week, and these provided students with the opportunity to experience exam like conditions in a variety of subjects. This will be something they need to do in the coming years, whether in further education or employment where there is a study component. Students embraced this opportunity and applied themselves to the different exam sessions which, was fantastic to see. The students will benefit from this experience and feel more comfortable when they are faced with the challenge of exams in the future. Thank you to the Year 10 team for setting and marking these exams.
Several of our school bands participated in the 2024 annual Rock Challenge at The Door of Hope on Friday night. This was an amazing opportunity and experience for these students to perform in front of such a large audience. I’m sure they will continue to develop as young musicians under the tutelage of Mr Woods.
Attendance continues to be something that we are focussing on, and it is important that we all work together to ensure each, and every student is here every day. This allows students to learn lesson to lesson, without breaks in continuity. The research shows how daily attendance is one of the most important factors in students succeeding both academically and socially. It also sets students up to succeed in the workplace where attendance is an expectation and compulsory. Please make sure if your child is away from school for any reason, that you contact the administration team with the reason so that our attendance records can be changed to reflect this.
Senior soccer played Riverside High School in the semi final on Wednesday. The game ended in a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes of hard fought and extremely skillful soccer.
From this the game then went on to a golden goal drop off consisting of 1 player dropping off the field every 2 minutes for 12 minutes. At the end of this period the score was still 0-0. RHS progressed through to the Grand Final as they finished on top of the ladder at the end of the season.
Well done to the Queechy crew for demonstrating resilience and playing their hearts out week in, week out. We will be back in 2025!
The Senior Netball Division 2 girls have been undefeated all season and came out on top with a win over St Marys!
They played a good match in the rain before it was cancelled half way through and we were lucky enough to be in front by 1 point to give us the win. Layla Schoenmaker was Most Valuable Player of the match and very well deserved.
The Q are very proud!
Queechy High School 7/8 soccer team made the grand final against Prospect High School. After arriving at Prospect we found that there were two plovers nest with eggs on the playing field and after numerous swooping’s we were forced to modify the pitch and play on a lesser sized field. Both teams played hard but fair soccer and at half time the score was Queechy 3, with goals from Henry, Gauthier and Captain Griff, to Prospect 1. Ollie in goals made some fantastic saves to keep The Q in the game. Two long range second half goals from MVP Henry sealed the 5-1 victory for Queechy. The team did an amazing job this season and were worthy winners of the pennant. Massive thanks must go to Lydia and Will who helped the team out during the season.
Congratulations to our Junior Netball Division 4 girls taking home the final! These girls have worked hard all year and have improved throughout the season.
Well done to Maya who was Most Valuable Player and scoring 20 goals in the game.
