Students have been learning about the symbols used in circuits and the difference between series and parallel circuits.
This term, our Grade 8 students have been deeply engaged in learning about Feudal Japan, exploring its rich history, culture, and societal structures. They have shown great enthusiasm and curiosity throughout this unit.
As we move forward, we are excited to transition into our next topic on landforms and landscapes, where students will explore the natural world and develop a deeper understanding of the earth's physical features. We're looking forward to another engaging and educational journey for the remainder of the term.
In Term 3, Grade 9s began a unit on Persuasive Speeches. They have been exposed to language devices and various forms of persuasive writing and speaking, with a major focus on Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr’s I Have a Dream speech. Students are in the process of writing an analytical essay on his speech, exploring the rhetorical devices (the written word) and oratorial skills (the spoken word) he utilised. To help facilitate their understanding of the US Civil Rights Movement, some classes watched the film, Selma (2015) which depicts the historic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1965, led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his quest to secure equal voting rights for African Americans. By the end of the term, students will explore a contemporary issue of personal significance and write and present their own speech to the class.
Our Grade 10 students have successfully completed their unit on Quadratic Equations, diving deep into topics like factoring, solving, and graphing quadratics. This challenging unit has equipped them with essential problem-solving skills and a strong foundation in algebra. As we approach the upcoming exams, students are encouraged to review their notes, complete practice problems, and reach out for any additional support they may need. We're confident that their hard work and dedication will lead to success in the exams!
Our Grade 8 students have just completed their unit on Solving Equations, where they mastered techniques for solving linear equations, understanding the balance method, and applying these skills to real-world problems. This unit has laid a critical foundation for their future studies in algebra. As they reflect on their progress, students are encouraged to continue practicing and consolidating their understanding. We’re proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing their hard work reflected in the upcoming assessments!

We are already past the halfway point through Term 3 and our school continues to hum along with students engaged and teachers delivering high quality, engaging tasks for our learners to further develop and enhance the skills and attributes that set them up to be successful both as learners and as valued contributors to our school and wider communities. We take pride in offering our students many opportunities throughout the school year, whether it be competitions, presentations, inter-high carnivals, or extra-curricular activities. One such extra-curricular activity that the school has supported is the work experience program which sees a number of our Grade 9 and 10 students experience what the real world of work looks like. Students experience what working in the Trades, Beauty and Hairdressing as well as Retail and Hospitality is like and whether a career in these fields is something that they would like to pursue in the future.
At Queechy High School we believe that quality education is based on the principles of acceptance and inclusion of all students. The Department for Education Children and Young People (DECYP) ‘Learners First Strategy’ states that one of the core values is ‘Equity’ which reflects how everyone has the right to challenging and engaging learning opportunities. We support the successful outcome for every student through quality teaching in the Australian Curriculum.
At Queechy High School we want to ensure that our young people have the very best of opportunities to lay the foundations for a good life. We want our school to be a place where every student must be able to learn without interruption from others. We have four very clear expectation for Success that determine how everyone is expected to focus at our school:
¨ Being in Uniform
¨ Being Prepared and organised for learning
¨ Speaking Respectfully
¨ Behaving Respectfully
I ask that you support your son or daughter in meeting these expectations in all their interactions and learning sessions at Queechy. This will support the learning outcomes for every single student to be positive.
On Thursday the 15 of August, the Child Studies and Child Studies Extended classes held our annual Red Nose Day Fundraiser. To raise funds, the students cooked and iced cupcakes to sell, along with Red Nose Merchandise, and painted red noses. The school community were encouraged to wear red and give a gold coin donation. The best dressed from each grade was awarded a canteen voucher.
We raised an amazing $538.25 that will go towards research and support for families who have been affected by Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraiser.
Miss Mackrill, Mrs Milner and the Child Studies/Child Studies Extended students.
